We will be hosting our 2017 classes at artisan-crafted Tonglen Lake Lodge, an exclusive resort on the edge of Denali National Park & Preserve. A perfect location for learning and hands-on field instruction. Our program is designed for individuals wanting to get the most out of their Alaska photographic adventure or vacation. The program is also ideal for Alaskans seeking a weekend seminar to improve their photographic skills.
Denali Photographic Workshops are designed for nature photographers who want to emphasize photography skills, with computer techniques a compliment to their art. Our multi-day courses cover everything aspiring as well as accomplished photographers need to advance their skills. Our classes emphasize a well-practiced craft using all the time-honored techniques to produce pleasing and quality photographs. We help students capture the best possible image right from the start so that time spent at the computer can be utilized for creative expression instead of correcting fundamental errors.
Tom Walker’s three-day Denali Photographic Workshops at Tonglen Lake Lodge blend classroom presentations and lectures with on-site shooting demonstrations and field trips to scenic locations in the heart of the magnificent Alaska Range. (The seminar lecture period, "Guide to Alaska locations and photography", can benefit visitors and residents alike.) Tonglen Lake Lodge (www.tonglenlake.com) is an artisan-built facility away from the park hustle and bustle and a perfect setting for our photography seminars.
Our three-day seminars include, in part, these topics:
-Sound fundamentals of digital photography
-Techniques for landscape, wildlife, and macro photography
-Composition and the art of seeing.
-The digital darkroom and Photoshop© techniques - using the power of Layers and Curves.
Emphasis will be placed on the importance of proper composition, the use of light and the “art of seeing.” Instruction will also include: image processing and photo printing techniques; how to create high dynamic range (HDR) and panoramic (stitched) images; file storage, backup & management. Field trips and outdoor demonstrations offer opportunities for students to put their new knowledge into practice. A small instructor to student ratio allows personalized instruction.
*Students must have a digital SLR camera (no point and shoot cameras, please) and a basic knowledge of photographic principles.
